Microsoft has released updates for the Mac versions of its productivity suites Office 2004, Office 2008, and Office 2011. All updates address security issues, as well as the stability, and reliability of the suites.
All users of Microsoft Office for Mac are being told to update. The Redmond giant explains why in security bulletin MS11-045.
Office for Mac 2011, however, switched to a single activation code and to an install-based licensing plan, effectively halving the number of Macs on which a customer can install the program. The company highlights some of the improvements in Outlook and Word for Mac 2011. Here’s the breakdown for Outlook:
Reliability of Free/Busy information is improved · This update fixes an issue that causes incorrect Free/Busy information to be shown in Outlook 2011 when Microsoft Exchange servers are located in the UTC +8 Perth time zone.
Reliability of delegate information is improved
· This update fixes issues that sometimes cause delegate information to be lost when the following conditions are true:· Changes are made to account settings.· User certificates are added or removed.
Stability is improved
· This update fixes an issue that causes some users to be unable to log on after you upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 Service Pack 1.
For those relying on the popular ‘Word’ processor, reliability is improved for Japanese users typing in Hiragana input mode.
Stability is improved via code corrections to the way Word opens items from the template gallery, or when the user employs the Advanced Find and Replace function.
Users can update by either downloading the standalone Microsoft Office for Mac 14.1.2 installer package, or via the built-in software update mechanism in any of the Office apps running on their Mac.

Microsoft was busy releasing its products like windows 7, Office 2010, Windows Live Essentials suite that includes windows live messenger 2011, etc. in the last couple of years. Now it is time for the much awaited Microsoft office suite of applications for Mac.
Office for Mac 2011 is a great improvement over its predecessor Office for Mac 2008. Microsoft Office had always been the world’s most popular and widely used Office suite of applications.However, Mac users weren’t lucky as Microsoft never seemed to do justice for them. This despite the fact that Microsoft Office for Mac was introduced for Macintosh in 1989, even before it was released for Windows!
