1. Select Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Server Manager. The Server Manager is displayed.
Click Start Administrative Tools Server Manager. On the left panel of the Server Manager dialog box, click Roles. If IIS has not been enabled, click Add Roles on the Roles Summary panel. Click Next and enable Web Server (IIS) in the list. ' - Download and install Microsoft Visual C 2015 Redistributable (x64). Using Windows Server Manager install IIS7 Web Server Role and make sure you include CGI Service. Open Internet Information Services (IIS 7) Manager, click on Server name, open FastCGI Settings, and then click on Add Application. Install and configure IIS 7/7.5 on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 IIS is available for download on the Microsoft website. On the Startmenu, click All Programs Administrative Tools Server Manager. In the Server Manager, click Roles Add Roles. Installing IIS 7.0 on Windows Vista can be very helpful for web developers and sites can easily be copied between Vista and Windows Server 2008. Overall, it’s quite easy to get up and running with IIS 7.0, either on Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista.
2. In the Server Manager window, scroll down to Roles Summary, and then click Add Roles. The Add Roles Wizard will start with a 'Before You Begin' page. The wizard asks for verification of the following:
- The administrator account has a strong password
- The network settings, such as IP address, are configured
- The latest security updates from Windows Update are installed
3. Select Web Server (IIS) on the Select Server Roles page. An introductory page will open with links for further information.
NOTE: When you use the Add Roles Wizard to install IIS, you get the default installation, which has a minimum set of role services. If you need additional IIS role services, such as Application Development or Health and Diagnostics, make sure to select the check boxes associated with those features in the Select Role Services page of the wizard.
4. Select the IIS services to be installed on the Select Role Services page. Add only the modules necessary. Click Next when complete.

5. Click Add Required Role Services.
6. IIS is now installed with a default configuration for hosting ASP.NET on Windows Server. Click Close to complete the process.
7. Confirm that the Web Server works by visiting http://localhost. The default website is displayed.
NOTE: Install only the absolute necessary IIS services to minimize the IIS installation footprint. This also minimizes the attack surface, which is one of the benefits of IIS 7.

The ArcGIS Web Adaptor requires that IIS be enabled and specific IIS components be enabled on Windows Server 2008/2008 R2. The setup will not proceed if IIS is not detected and specific IIS components are not enabled.
If you've already enabled IIS but are missing the required IIS components, the installation will display a message indicating that certain IIS components are missing. You have the option to allow the installation to automatically enable the required IIS components. However, depending on your organization's security policies, it may be necessary to manually enable the required IIS components, as described below.

Click Start > Administrative Tools > Server Manager.
- On the left panel of the Server Manager dialog box, click Roles.
- If IIS has not been enabled, click Add Roles on the Roles Summary panel. Click Next and enable Web Server (IIS) in the list. Then, click Next and select Role Services in the left panel.
- If IIS is already enabled, but not all required components have been enabled, click Add Role Services in the Web Server (IIS) panel on the right.
On the Select Role Services dialog box, verify that the web server components listed below are enabled.
After enabling the required IIS components, click Next > Install.
